Royal Exhibition Building is an impressive Victorian structure that is a symbol of the Industrial Revolution. Built in 1880, it was the first building in Australia to win Unesco World Heritage status. Step inside to see fine 19th-century wood- and paint-work. Australia’s first parliament met here in 1901. Now, the Renaissance-style dome and lush gardens host car shows, fairs, and live performances. We were here on a Sunday and the place was all locked up. This is a World Heritage historic place that was completed in 1880. The building looks simply magnificent from the outside but unfortunately for us, the southern frontage was under renovation so we could not see the grand old lady in her pure splendour. Nevertheless, we spent a few hours walking the grounds and just chilling and enjoying the gardens. We will definitely be back when the renovation is completed.

Reed and Barnes, 1880s? Pretty eclectic, Byzantine, Romanesque, renaissance - dome based on Florence cathedral pretty sure. I like it better than some other Reed work- maybe as it's set in lovely baroque gardens away from development. Facilities fine- seen many events there. Can get cold in the wintertime.
