A remarkable practical achievement in itself, the quaint, red-brick complex that is Cooks' Cottage was dismantled and transported piece-by-piece from its original home in England. Now located in Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne, the cottage serves as a rustic-style, ivy-covered reminder of Australia’s colonial past. Immaculately preserved and authentically charming, the building’s furnishings are all representative of the era in which it was constructed. Nice slow paced activity for the kids. A wonderful piece of australian history. There is a nearby cafe with outdoor seating, a visitor center and clean water fot drinking. which is great if you want to burn off some of the kids energy
As we used to live near the original in Middlesbrough in England, it was fascinating to visit this brick by brick replica of the original. Our son had been christened in the church that Cook had been christened in, so was special to us. The cottage is set in a peaceful park in the city & has a nice cafe next to it with fresh bread & cakes.
