If your itinerary has you on the A1 highway between Cairns and Townsville, stop at Wallaman Falls, Australia's tallest single-drop waterfall. Get off the highway at Ingham and follow the access road to the parking lot. From here walk down to the falls, which drop 268 m (879 ft). The round-trip takes about two hours, but you might want to spend extra time viewing the spectacular scenery. A sign asks visitors not to swim in the 20 m (66 ft) deep pool beneath the falls, but many take a dip anyway. Bring your camera and drinking water for the walk. You can acquire a camping permit from the Queensland government if you want to tent at the top of the falls.     Impressive waterfall! Definitely worth seeing once in your life. Nearby camping grounds has all the mod cons. Good turtle feeding off the bridge at Stone Creek.

    Went for a day trip Dec 2018 after the rain they had experienced in the area. Wow, what a sight and the roar was incredible. Next time I'm making the trek down to the falls to have a swim as well. Great drive up there and good facilities at the lookout at well.
