Piers & Boardwalks · Beaches · Water Parks
The oldest European settlement on South Australia's mainland, Glenelg is named after a former Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, Lord Glenelg. Tourists come for the amusement parks that populate the city with Ferris wheels, one of which has a 25 m (82 ft) single arm wheel that gives a spectacular view. You will find a modern spin on the classic carnival amusement park in town complete with a preserved historic carousel. The friendly population, the majority of whom are descended from Northern European immigrants, number just under 3,500 people. Glenelg is a quiet oasis of everyday living with just a few tall buildings. The roller coasters and Ferris wheel give the town a nostalgic sweetness.   Plan your holiday in Glenelg and other destinations, from the rural, to the urban, and everything in between, using our Australia trip planner.
