Maheno Wreck is a must-stop along the 120 km (75 mi) beach of Fraser Island. It’s a photographer’s paradise and a painter's delight. See the SS Maheno half buried in the sand amid spectacular surroundings. The SS Maheno was an ocean liner belonging to the Union Company of New Zealand. On July 7, 1935, the ship was under tow, broken in Japan, when a cyclone broke her free from her tow ship and she ended up on the shores of Fraser Island.
