Admire the carved timber relief panels at The Wall in the Wilderness, which depict the struggle and survival of indigenous people and pioneers. See why some have likened the project to Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel: The artist, Greg Duncan, has spent a decade carving a wall from solid Huon Pine. The wall is a work in progress and when completed, The Wall in the Wilderness will be 100 m (328 ft) long. The art work was excellent and impressive and the entire set-up was top class but unfortunately it was too expensive at $15.00 per head althoiugh the investment would have been signficant. No photos..... more »

The detail in the carving and the scale of the work is impressive as is the building holding it, and I did not mind paying the $15.00 entry fee to see it, although I am always put off by 'no photos... more »

A great quick stop while you're on the way to other places in Tasmania. This work in progress is worth the minimal entry fee. As well as The Wall itself, there are examples of his other works and detailed pencil drawings done by others worth a look too in the room upstairs. A gift shop and cafe also serve scones and jam and cream. Just note that no photography is allowed inside the building.

Don't miss the opportunity. We nearly gave it a miss at the price but glad we made the choice. You have to appreciate the hours and effort. Foster and enjoy a glass of wine while viewing. No photos to be taken, refreshing to just enjoy.
