Museum of Old and New Art (Mona)
A large, privately owned art museum, Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) represents the love child of Tasmanian millionaire David Walsh, who nicknamed it a "subversive Disneyland for adults." Built into the cliffside, the museum features a labyrinth of intentionally gloomy, windowless exhibition spaces displaying Walsh's collection of fun, quirky, and provocative art. Take a self-guided tour with an iPod--you'll receive one upon entrance--and begin your journey by walking down the spiral flight of stairs. The museum opened in 2011 after a renovation to the tune of $75 million. What could I say about MONA that hasn't been said already. If you had to sum it up in one word it would be EDGY. Went again for about the sixth time last weekend. Living in Hobart the locals tend to take it for granted. I think I was the only local there. The exhibitions are still engaging and my favourite is still the engine oil pool, which was one of the original pieces back when it opened 10 years ago. Need I say it, well worth a visit.

The property that MONA is situated at is extremely beautiful. It is hard to argue with the incredible scenic background and moody, edgy interior architecture of the museum itself. The artwork is funky, strange and interesting. You should allocate at least three hours to fully immerse yourself in the entire experience.
