The Australian Workers Heritage Centre is located in Barcaldine, Queensland - Australia. The Centre is a major draw card on the Matilda Highway Tourist Route and is one of the 33 Queensland Heritage Trail Network attractions.

A museum styled interpretive attraction... featuring some 14 buildings housing 22 displays, where visitors can journey through exhibition spaces which celebrate the extraordinary legacy of working Australians and tell the story of a vitally important part of our nation's history - 'Our Working Life'.

Opened in 1991, the Workers Heritage Centre is sited in the grounds of the former Barcaldine State School. Many of the original structures have been reinvented into exhibition space. Other historic work places of yesteryear, including a one teacher school, police watch-house and railway station, have been relocated to the Centre from throughout Queensland.

Within these unique spaces, the spirit of our nation's workers is captured and the stories of Australia's working history come to life through objects, art and multimedia presentations.

Visit... the Shearers' Hall - an exhibition which informs of the history of the Great Shearers' Strike of 1891.

Home of the 'Young-Un'... where Australia's most famous tree lives on through the only direct offspring of the heritage listed Tree of Knowledge; ensuring this symbolic icon of our national working history is secure for future generation of Australians.

Discover at your own pace... the Workers Heritage Centre set in over 2 hectares of landscaped gardens surrounding a bore fed billabong; creating a cool outback oasis with the weary traveller in mind.

A Place of Reflection... the surrounds have been designed to complement the visitor experience - a relaxed and tranquil setting, complete with BBQ, picnic facilities and children's playground all adding to the family friendly experience of the Australian Workers Heritage Centre.
