Come explore Australia's largest abandoned 1800's Lunatic Asylum, the infamous ARADALE on Madmen's Hill in Ararat, Victoria. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Aradale Lunatic Asylum and many more Ararat attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Ararat day trip planner.
Twisted Histories offers a variety of experience to interest the firm believer or the most hardened skeptic. Our two hour Aradale Ghost Tours ($35) are packed with bone chilling tales of the early years of the Asylum, the hardship face by patients and staff, the reputation and folklore which has slowly collected about the estate. On our Paranormal Investigations, running for either two or three hours ($50/$70), you will be equipped with an array of detection equipment and explore a variety of creepy locations to try your hand at ghost hunting.
Our tours run EVERY Friday and Saturday night. Bookings and payments are taken in advance- we do not recommend 'showing up on the night' as tours are regularly full. Please ask about concession or family rates.
Ghost Tours and Paranormal Investigations are also available as Sleepover Events, running monthly.
Large group bookings (15+ people) for families, schools and businesses are welcome for weeknights- why not organise a birthday, staff social event or celebration with a twist?

We did two tours, the 2 hour ghost tour and then returned the next day for the 3 hour paranormal investigation tour, it was honestly so much fun and a little spooky. All the guides were incredibly knowledgeable and really eloquently bought the history of this massive complex alive. The two tours are very different, the ghost tour speaks to the history of the buildings and the treatments that were carried out on patients while being little theatrical. The paranormal investigation is very different, if you're a sceptic like me you'll have lots of fun and even get a little spooked! Just be conscious that there will likely be people on the tour who take it incredibly seriously which takes while to adjust to. The paranormal tour takes you through areas of the complex that you don't visit on the standard tours like the Hostel and the Forensic Unit. Both buildings are very eerie and it's difficult to not creep yourself out.
The history of this place isn't well known, but is a part of our past. It's just a shame our guide was a tad over theatrical which didn't appeal to me, but perhaps others will love it. Very hard to find actual place, so make sure you enter off the highway (recommended on their website - not Google maps). The staff throughout booking process were great and l loved the phone message.
