Join a spooky ghost tour of Aradale Ghost Tour, which served as a mental hospital for over 140 years. Originally constructed in the 1860s to accommodate the increasing population of mental patients in the colony of Victoria, the site housed almost 1,000 "lunatics" per year. The large complex expanded over time, eventually becoming a self-sufficient town and including almost 70 buildings, which now serve as historic tourist attractions. Guided tours of the place can lead you through a vast system of wards and hallways, as well as the spacious administration building, chapel, hospital, and the allegedly haunted morgue. Explore one of Australia’s creepiest buildings after dark, and learn all about the controversial treatments used here for over a century. The history of this place isn't well known, but is a part of our past. It's just a shame our guide was a tad over theatrical which didn't appeal to me, but perhaps others will love it. Very hard to find actual place, so make sure you enter off the highway (recommended on their website - not Google maps). The staff throughout booking process were great and l loved the phone message.
Had the best time in our visit a few years back, this place was massive and amazing, we only got a short two hour tease of a place so massive, but the places we got to see were all fantastic! To history our guide told us about the facility was bone chilling, and to think about what they used to do at this place was crazy, to think places like this really existed is incredible! The entire tour was worth every moment, and when the time is right, we would definitely return to take on the full, longest tour possible just to experience more of this creepy, unbelievable place!
