Catedral Primada, Buenos Aires

4.6
#5 of 562 in Historic Sites in Argentina
Church · Tourist Spot
Despite its undoubted importance as a religious landmark, Catedral Primada is best known as the burial site of General Jose de San Martin, Argentina's celebrated national hero. You can see San Martin's sarcophagus at a mausoleum inside the church--note the statues of three women guarding the general and representing Argentina, Chile, and Peru. The somber cathedral, which looks more like a bank building from the outside, also contains the remains of other Argentinean war heroes. • Magnifique place where you can see the mausoleum of San Martin Father of the country. I visit that with the help of the great company of Argentina Elite Transfers and Tours and their guide  more »
  • Beautiful church, with paintings and frescos on the walls,. Believe Pope Francis administered communion here. This is worth a peek!  more »

  • Conveniently in the very centre of Buenos Aires, this cathedral is striking outside with a beautiful interior. Plenty of minor rooms and corners to explore. Many ceremonies seem to happen from day to day. Not to be missed if you're in BA.
  • Beautiful Cathedral with a slightly different feel from outside. The area it is in contains a number of historic landmarks and this Cathedral is worth wandering in and out of. It is the main Catholic church in Buenos Aires and has a beautiful interior.
